If you love to cook and drink fabulous wine, you won’t want to miss Hugh Carpenter’s July 19-24, or September 20-25 Camp Napa program. My former client and friend, Hugh, is one of the most popular and entertaining cooking teachers in America. He has been leading exciting cooking classes here in Napa and in San Miguel, Mexico created especially for independent travelers who want to combine a cooking vacation with plenty of free time to pursue their own interests. Hugh’s Napa Valley classes are an excellent way to get a behind the scenes look of some of the finest wineries in the Valley.
Summer and fall are especially scenic times to visit, with warm clear days and lots of activity as the wineries prepare for, and begin the annual “crush.” You’ll enjoy attending three cooking classes at Cakebread Cellars, personally lead by Hugh, who was awarded “Cooking School Teacher of the Year” by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. You’ll also cook with the winery chef at Hall Winery, Chef Corrie Beezley, known for her refined interpretations of farm-to-table organic cuisine, which pair beautifully with Napa Valley wines. At the new kitchen in Joseph Phelps Winery, chef Morgan Robinson will lead the group in preparing a fabulous lunch that will be perfectly complemented by delicious Joseph Phelps wines. The program includes visits to other leading wineries as well, such as David Arthur Winery, B Cellars, and the legendary Frog’s Leap Winery. There will be a special graduation dinner at the ultra modern Vineyard 29, prepared by one of Napa Valley’s top chefs.
Just in case you haven’t heard, Hugh and his amazing wife Teri Sandison released a fabulous cookbook last year called Mexican Flavors. Teri is the official photographer and the book features more than 15 years of photographs from Hugh’s classes in Mexico.
