Extraordinary Success for our Deserving Veterans at The Pathway Home in Yountville

The Pathway Home in Yountville is an innovative California facility that offers hope to combatants with post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injuries. It’s more than just a home for our veterans; the Pathway Home is the place that suffering veterans can go for dramatic and effective treatment, spending four months in the intensive program. The program includes introducing these veterans to a loving community of local service club members who assist them in finding their own pathway home from war.  Check out this glowing review of the program, “Nonprofit Pathway Home helps combat vets” in Stars and Stripes, a newspaper that provides independent news and information to the U.S. military community.

I am in total awe of our veterans and am certain that The Pathway Home approach is extremely beneficial. There are several ways we civilians can help:

  • Go to the screening and reception of the film “Of Men and War.”
This award-wining film was made at The Pathway Home over a five-year period of time featuring some unique and powerful treatments. There’s a screening that begins at 6:00 pm at the Lincoln Theatre on May 6th with a special reception prior at 5:30.
  • Participate in the 8th annual Wine Valley Cycle4Sight bike ride in Napa on Saturday, April 18th 2015. All proceeds from the event help pay for the program. Click here to register.
  • It costs about $1.3 million a year to run the program and they rely on private donations, so there’s an opportunity for people of means to get involved and donate to help our deserving veterans who gave so much to us.

Studies show that as many as 30% of the 2.8 million US troops sent to Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from PTSD, severe depression, or a related condition. In January, the VA revealed that from 2009 to 2011 the number of suicides among veterans under age 30 spiked by 44%, rising from 88 to 152. Overall, 22 veterans commit suicide every day, with the annual toll exceeding 8,000.

The Pathway Home is different from other facilities in many ways. First, there’s an expert seasoned staff, all with military experience, all with a high tolerance for emotional outbursts and eccentric behavior. Add to that there are only a few patients treated at one time, not to mention the collegial atmosphere of a campus that does not resemble a typical hospital setting.
